Branson, in southern Missouri, is located in the wooded region of the Ozark Mountains, 11 miles from the Arkansas state line. The city is framed by the Ozarks and surrounded by lakes. Branson is best known for entertainment. The foundation of Branson entertainment is the history and culture of the Ozarks. Many Branson attractions combine Ozarks history and culture with modern technology.
Visitors to Branson can learn the history of the area on Branson Scenic Railway's 40 mile round trip excursion through the foothills of the Ozark Mountains. Silver Dollar City, called the World's Best Theme Park, celebrates the 1880s in America and includes period crafts and costumes as well as entertaining rides and thrilling shows.
The Branson IMAX Entertainment Complex features the film, Ozarks Legacy and Legend, that includes the fictional story of an Ozarks family between 1824 and 1950. Shepherd of the Hills Homestead and Outdoor Theatre features

both a dramatic production based on Harold Bell Wright's Ozarks novel whose setting was at the turn of the 20th century and also a theme park. Ralph Foster Museum at College of the Ozarks displays items that represent Ozarks heritage. Several annual Branson events also reflect Ozarks history and culture: Plum Nellie Days Annual Hillbilly Festival & Craft Show, Old Time Fiddle Contest and Compton Ridge Campground Fiddlers Convention. However, Branson's most famous entertainment are the Branson shows.
Branson, called the Live Entertainment Capital of the World, features over 80 musical and variety shows and over 40 state-of-the-art theaters. Shows include performances by internationally known recording artists. Each year new shows are added and some move on, but anchoring Branson's entertainment is The Baldknobbers Jamboree. The founders of this hillbilly show opened Branson's first musical theater in 1959. The jamboree is currently housed in Baldknobbers Theatre, a Branson mainstay since 1968.

Branson is also the home of great shopping and dining. Strip mall, fine dining and fun restaurants ensure that there is something for everyone in Branson.
